Itinerary
Day 1ATHENS ARRIVAL TRANSFER
As you arrive in Athens, you will be welcomed by an English speaking driver and then dropped to one of the hotels in Athens downtown. Once you have checked in, then you have the afternoon and evening all to yourself to explore Athens. You can also head to Plaka to enjoy a great traditional meal in one of the local restaurants.
Day 2ATHENS PRIVATE WALKING TOUR * OPTIONAL TOUR
After your early breakfast you can then enjoy an Athens City Tour in a coach that is air-conditioned guided by our English speaking guide. Athens offers modern and Ancient monuments and buildings to witness, such as the glorious Parthenon on top of the Acropolis, the Panathinaikon Stadium, where the first modern Olympics was held, the Constitution Square and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Then it's up to you to choose to relax by your hotel pool or visit the Stavros Niarchos Cultural Center.
Day 3FLIGHT TO CRETE, CHANIA
As you arrive in Chania you will be warmly welcomed by your English speaking driver who will give you a ride to your hotel in the Old Town of Chania, one of the most scenic towns in Greece. Then you would have to check in and then go for one of the restaurants there for a lovely dinner for two.
Day 4PRIVATE WALKING TOUR * OPTIONAL
Enjoy a private walking tour around the old town and the Venetian port. Our walk will allow you to visit the most important sites, such as the Venetian fortifications, the Arsenals, the 1860 Greek Orthodox Cathedral, the Food Market, the Etz Hayyim Synagogue, and the Turkish quarters behind the inner harbour. The tour will also bring out plenty of hidden spots off the beaten track, which reflect the mix of influences that has given Chania its very unique atmosphere. A walk through time, the tour promises to help you gain an understanding of how the city's multilayered history has unfolded. Rest of the day at leisure.
Day 5PRIVATE FOOD WALK TOUR * OPTIONAL
This tour connects you with the city's essence that is made complete by delicious food and warm, outgoing people. Join our knowledgeable guide to this mouthwatering walk around Chania's historical district that combines a stroll through its most important sites and visits to authentic and colorful food shops and eateries. We will get a glimpse into the past and living history of Chania, architecture and lifestyle as we walk the town, while exploring Crete's flavors and aromas. We will speak with the people behind the scenes and taste local culinary delights, such as the syrupy "loukoumades", traditional "bougatsa pie", rusks, cheese, olives, herbs & spices. An easy walking pace is followed with resting stops that make the tour suitable for all fitness levels.
Day 6DRIVE TO HERAKLION, RUINS OF KNOSSOS
After breakfast you will check out of your hotel and drive to Heraklion. During this you could enjoy the diversity surrounding you, as Crete has a combination of large towns and villages, mountains, plains, lakes and rivers altogether forming a unique blend.
After a 2-hour drive, you will visit the ruins of Knossos Palace, where a qualified guide will meet you for a private tour around the site. Knossos Palace, one of the major must-see archaeological sites in Greece, is presenting visitors with a rare glimpse into Minoan civilization. Accompanied by a knowledgeable archaeology guide, who promises to offer in-depth, personal attention, you will browse through the restored palace, piecing together the threads of the story of this great civilization through the structures the Minoans lived in. At the end of the tour, you will be driven to the hotel in Heraklion. Rest of the day at leisure. Overnight in Heraklion.
Day 7DISCOVER THE FLAVORS - LOCAL COOKING EXPERIENCE
Your private tour will start with a visit at a family-run olive oil estate set on the gently rolling hillsides in the outskirts of Heraklion. Surrounded by olive groves this ecological prototype farm promotes the traditional way of organic olive oil production - the olive oil is stone milled and cold pressed. We will be guided around their premises and have an olive-oil tasting, accompanied by the owners. We will then drive through the vine-growing region and visit a local winery surrounded by 7 hectares of vineyards. The main focus here is to explore the further potentials of Cretan varieties as well as the capacity of foreign varieties to adapt to the Greek climate and eventually to be blended with native ones. After a guiding around the production area and the cellars, you will continue with our hands-on cooking class. You will prepare a number of traditional dishes under the directions of a local lady cook and will discover the secrets of the traditional Cretan diet and its healthy guidelines. The experience will culminate at the table, where you will taste the estate's wines and enjoy the lunch you prepared
Day 8HERAKLION FREE DAY
You have the next one day to do as you please. Crete is one of the largest and most populated of the Greek Islands, so your choices of things to do on this amazing island is endless. The option to sit and relax by your hotel's pool is always there, but this is your chance to see some of the most beautiful towns in Greece. The beaches of Crete are as good as any found in the country and a trip to the centre of the island can provide you with a look at traditional Greek life. You can find dinner at a local taverna or restaurant near to your hotel and get an idea of what you would like to do on this amazing island - your options are almost endless.
Day 9FLIGHT TO ATHENS
This is the last day of your honeymoon in Greece. Take your breakfast, and then you will be transferred to Heraklion airport or port for your departure.
